1. Overview

Fastr Chat is a real-time chat web application that supports public rooms, private rooms, direct conversations, file uploads, notifications, profile customization, moderation features, and account recovery flows. This policy is intended to describe what information is handled by the service and how that information is used to operate, secure, and improve the product.

2. Information We Collect

Account and profile information

  • Your username, email address, password hash, display name, avatar, profile bio, account status, and related timestamps.
  • Information tied to account verification and password recovery, including one-time codes, recovery request identifiers, and delivery status for verification or reset messages.
  • Settings and preference data such as notification preferences, room mute or pin state, and blocked user lists.

Messages, rooms, and files

  • Messages you send, edit, delete, save, react to, reply to, or report.
  • Room and conversation data such as memberships, room names, room visibility, direct-message relationships, and virtual room preferences.
  • Files and media you upload, including temporary upload data, file metadata, attachment links, and content required to deliver previews and downloads.

Usage, device, and security information

  • IP address, request metadata, browser or device context, timestamps, room activity, and security-related logs used for abuse prevention, rate limiting, performance monitoring, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Session and authentication data needed to sign you in and keep your session active.
  • Browser-side storage, including tokens and limited account data saved in local storage so the web app can keep you signed in between visits.

Support, feedback, and moderation submissions

  • Feedback you choose to send through in-app feedback forms.
  • Reports about content or behavior, including report reason, status, timestamps, and related moderation details.
  • Operational data needed by authorized administrators to review reported content, monitor system health, and manage rooms or accounts.

3. How We Use Information

Fastr Chat uses information we collect to:

  • Create and manage user accounts, authenticate sessions, and support sign-in, email verification, and password reset workflows.
  • Deliver core messaging features, including room history, notifications, replies, reactions, attachments, and public-room discovery.
  • Provide profile and account features such as avatars, bios, presence status, saved messages, blocked users, and room membership settings.
  • Secure the service, enforce rate limits, detect abuse, investigate suspicious activity, and protect users, administrators, and infrastructure.
  • Review reports, moderate content, manage feedback, and operate administrative or support tools.
  • Maintain, debug, and improve product quality, reliability, and performance.

4. When Information Is Shared

We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • With other users, based on how the feature works. For example, your profile name, avatar, room participation, messages, replies, and uploaded files may be visible to people in the same room or conversation.
  • With service providers that help operate the app, such as hosting, storage, database, email delivery, or optional SMS delivery providers, strictly for service-related purposes.
  • With authorized administrators or moderators when needed to review reports, investigate abuse, manage rooms, or maintain platform safety.
  • When we believe disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, legal process, or a valid government request, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users or the service.
  • As part of a merger, acquisition, restructuring, financing, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality and continuity safeguards.

5. Room Visibility and Shared Links

  • Public rooms are designed for broader visibility. If you post in a public room, other users in that room may view your messages and attachments.
  • Fastr Chat supports public room previews and shared message links. If a room or message is shareable, certain content such as room name, message excerpts, sender display name, or attachment previews may be exposed to anyone with the link.
  • Private rooms and direct conversations are intended for more limited access, but they still rely on server-side processing and storage so the service can function.
  • If you choose to share a link externally, you are responsible for understanding that recipients may be able to view the linked content.

6. Storage, Security, and Retention

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures intended to protect information against unauthorized access, misuse, alteration, and loss. These measures may include authentication, access controls, validation, logging, rate limiting, and infrastructure protections. No security measure is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Retention

  • Account data is generally retained while your account remains active and as needed to operate the service or resolve legal, security, and operational issues.
  • Messages, room history, files, and moderation records may remain available for as long as needed for service continuity, abuse prevention, backup, dispute handling, or compliance purposes.
  • Email verification and password reset records are typically retained for limited operational and security periods configured by the service.
  • Logs, rate-limit records, and abuse-prevention data may be kept for limited periods needed to secure and maintain the platform.

Browser storage

Fastr Chat may store access credentials, refresh tokens, and basic account information in your browser's local storage so the web app can preserve your session. If you use a shared device, you should sign out after use.

7. Your Choices

  • You can update certain profile information such as display name, avatar, bio, and status from within the app.
  • You can manage room membership, mute notifications, pin rooms, block users, and report content through available in-app controls.
  • You can sign out and clear browser storage on your device, although some server-side records may remain as described in this policy.
  • You can contact us if you have questions about your data or need help with an account issue.

8. Children

Fastr Chat is not intended for children who are below the minimum age required to use online services under applicable law where they live. If you believe a child has provided personal information in violation of this policy, please contact us so we can review the issue.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect product changes, operational needs, legal requirements, or security practices. When we make material updates, we may revise the effective date and publish the updated version on this page.
